Auto: A Russian car license alone is not enough for clean self-drive legality; IDP, local recognition is limited, and self-drive car rental is rare. Cars are usually rented with driver, roughly $45-100/day depending on route and vehicle, with Vios, Innova, Fortuner common. Cambodia, Laos, China crossings are not normal rental-car plans; domestic traffic and driver availability define the experience.

• Northern Belt: Seasonal northern cities, old-quarter streets, limestone bays, mountain markets and dense street life. Seasonal subtropical climate with misty mountains and rice terraces. Summers stay hot and humid around 29–36°C while winters cool to 10–20°C with cloudy drizzly periods.
• Southern Tropical Belt: Hot humid megacity life, motorbike streets, Mekong towns, green canals and island escapes. Warm tropical climate year-round around 27–35°C with strong monsoon rains and lush river delta landscapes. Dry season brings long bright sunny stretches.
