Montenegro expat guide

Indoor smoking is still fairly common in social venues. Law vibe is relatively chill, with bureaucracy that can feel oddly loose rather than heavy.

Minimum budget: rural $1000/mo, urban $1100/mo. Medical insurance: $700/yr.

Auto: Russian local licenses are usually enough if the card is valid, readable; an IDP, translation is still worth carrying for desk friction. Rentals are roughly €20-55/day for i10/Polo, Clio class and more for automatics, SUVs, with coastal summer prices jumping. Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Albania and Kosovo are possible only with written permission and Green Card; coast and border queues are seasonal pain points.

Smoking: Indoor smoking is still fairly common in social venues.

Police / rules: Police and public-order vibe is low-drama: ordinary street life feels handled with common sense, not like a place where small mistakes turn into theatrical fines.
