Auto: Russian licenses are familiar locally, but an IDP, translation is still the safe rental setup. City rentals start around $35-70/day, while Prado, Land Cruiser, Delica expedition vehicles often run $90-180+/day with strict off-road terms. Russia, China border crossings by rental car are rare, paperwork-heavy and not a casual plan; domestic off-road recovery risk is the bigger issue.

• Desert & Mountain Belt: Gobi desert, mountain towns, nomadic camps, eagle-country edges and very long roads. Remote Gobi desert and alpine regions with harsh winds, strong sun, low humidity and dramatic seasonal temperature swings.
