Auto: Russian licenses are usually accepted by rental desks when readable, but an IDP, Spanish translation is smart. Rentals can look cheap then rise with insurance: roughly $20-60/day for Aveo, March, Versa class, more in resort zones and for automatics, SUVs. U.S., Belize and Guatemala crossings need special permission, insurance and are often prohibited; border queues can be long and security context varies.

Zones

• Central Highlands: Highland city life, colonial streets, design cafés and the country's widest urban choice. Mild elevated climate with spring-like weather most of the year. Summers sit around 22–29°C with rainy evenings, while winters stay around 6–18°C. Pine forests, volcanoes and dry hills shape the landscape.
• Northern Desert: Dry northern cities, industrial energy, desert mountains, highways and big suburbs. Dry open desert with intense sun and large temperature swings. Summers reach 34–42°C while winters can drop to 2–15°C. Very clear skies and low humidity overall.
• Tropical Coasts & South: Hot coasts, jungle edges, colonial-artsy towns and tourism-shaped pockets. Humid beaches, jungle heat and lush mountains. Around 28–35°C most of the year with hurricane season and heavy tropical rains in late summer.
